Making a living shouldn't have to cost you your life. Workplace fatalities, injuries, and illnesses are preventable. Safe jobs happen because employers make the choice to fulfill their responsibilities and protect their workers. Before OSHA was created 43 years ago, an estimated 14,000 workers were killed on the job every year. Today, workplaces are much safer and healthier, going from 38 fatal injuries a day to 12. But there is still much work to be done. The tables below provide summaries of work-related fatalities and incidents resulting in the hospitalization of three or more workers reported to OSHA. Employers must report these incidents to OSHA within eight hours. The summaries in the table record the name and address of the worker’s employer, the date of the fatality or catastrophe and a brief description. These summaries include only preliminary information, as reported to OSHA Area Offices or to states that operate OSHA-approved State Plans. OSHA investigates all work-related fatalities catastrophes in all covered workplaces.
