The WiFi-enabled Mi Air Purifier is part of Xiaomi’s range of IoT products, most of which are available in China. For India, this is the first IoT-based home product from Xiaomi;

one that is strategically chosen given the deteriorating air quality in the country. Air pollution remains one of the most talked about topics for a city like Delhi. You don’t need to go to the live AQI index to know that Delhi still has air pollution problems. And pollution in upcoming Tier-II and Tier-III cities has hardly been addressed. So don’t be surprised if more players launch air purifiers and similar products. Xiaomi’s Mi Air Purifier requires the Mi Home app if you want to know exactly what the air quality is and see the efficiency of the filter. The Mi Air Purifier 2 is actually pretty compact. The unit comes with the filter inside which is convenient. There is one button on the Mi Air Purifier 2 and you can keep tapping this to switch modes between Auto, Sleep and Favourites. The one on the back can be used to dim the green light. Also you can tap both buttons together to reset the WiFi settings. The Favourite mode can be used to set a strength for the fan, and for this the Mi Home app is needed.

Setting up the Mi Air Purifier 2 with the app is a long-winded process. First get the Mi Home app, make sure you have a Mi account, login and then you’ll see the Mi device reflected in the App. The Air Purifier first gets on the same WiFi as your mobile, and then once that’s done the data starts showing. I feel Xiaomi could have skipped this whole login to Mi account process. Not everyone will be keen to create one just for an Air Purifier. Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier, even in the auto mode is not loud, which is always a good sign with these things. The Air Purifier 2 itself is pretty compact and won’t occupy much space in your house (240 x 240 x 520 mm is the size) and even in the auto mode it’s not loud, which is always a good sign with these things. The app itself is pretty simple once you’ve set it-up. The Mi Home app shows the PM 2.5 particle levels in the room and it also lets you switch modes on the device as well. In Mi Home app you can also determine the strength of the fan by tinkering with the Favourites Mode; just long press on the tab and you can determine the CADR range which usually results in more noise. In my bedroom, where I usually prefer to keep these, the Mi Air Purifier 2 bought down the PM2.5 levels from 55 to 22 in half an hour, which is good. I had it on sleep mode all night and in the mornings the level where at 36, which is again acceptable. Even with a locked door and windows, don’t expect the levels to go down to 0 with any air purifier. Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2 is pretty effective when it comes to reducing the PM2.5 particles. What I like about Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2 is that it makes barely any sound and doesn’t require a lot of space. According to their app, it’s also pretty effective when it comes to reducing the PM2.5 particles.
