Recent Job Requests for Heating & Furnace Systems Contractors in Seattle, WA M M Comfort Systems Pinnacle Heating & A/C, L.L.C. beacon heating and plumbingAir fryers have exploded in popularity recently. Cooks and foodies love them because they're fast, clean, convenient, and let them enjoy fried foods without the fat. Their popularity has led to a great deal of discussion over which is the best: Philips Air Fryers or Avalon Bay Air Fryers. In the interest of fairness, we thought it was time to take a look ourselves and see how they stacked up. Does one have a clear advantage over the other in terms of technology, power, or design? The models we compared were the Philips HD9230/26 Air Fryer and the Avalon Bay Deluxe Air Fryer 100B. Here is what we found. The single most important component of an air fryer is its rapid air convection technology, and in this regard, Philips Air Fryers and Avalon Bay Air Fryers are both comparable. They're both countertop convection ovens.

They both have an electric coil above the food basket that radiates infrared heat down onto the basket contents and a high powered fan above the coil. The fan draws in air from outside and blows it down over the heating coil. The coil heats the air, which then heats the food as it passes over it. When the air reaches the bottom of the pan, it gets channeled back up along the sides of the basket by the downward pressure of the fan. This form of rapid air movement is known as forced convection and it's an incredibly efficient method of heat transfer. It prevents stagnant air from slowing down heat transfer rates and cooks your food evenly from all sides. The only difference between the two units in this regard is the unique starfish design as the bottom of the Philips Air Fryer food pan. The starfish is comprised of four curved ridges that radiate out from the center of the pan. The ridges breaks up the flow of hair and and redirects it upwards in different directions to ensure an even distribution of heat throughout the food basket.

The more evenly hot air flows over your food, the more evenly it cooks. The Avalon Bay Air Fryer has a raised dome at the bottom of the basket to break up and redirect air flow. When the air hits the dome, it moves out in all directions up and the downward motion of the fan forces it back up along the sides of the basket. Even though they both use the same cooking techniques, Philips and Avalon Bay differ slightly in terms of cooking power. Avalon Bay Air Fryers have 1500 watts of cooking power and a maximum temperature of 400°F. Philips Air Fryers only have 1400 watts and a maximum temperature of 390°F. Philips and Avalon Bay Air Fryers share several design features. They both cook food in non-stick, mesh baskets. They both automatically shut off when their timers expire. They both have a cool-to-the-touch basket handle that allows you to safely remove the basket during and after cooking. Both units have non-stick pads and both their baskets are dishwasher safe. Where do they diverge?

Philips and Avalon Bay both have small and compact designs, but if you're looking for the air fryer that will take up the least amount of space on your kitchen counter, it's Avalon Bay Deluxe Air Fryer . It's smaller and more compact. Its dimensions are 13.5 x 11 x 12.75 inches, while the Philips HD9230/26 Air Fryer is 11.3 x 12.4 x 15.1 inches, making Avalon Bay 222 cubic inches smaller than the Philips' Air Fryer. Avalon Bay air fryers are also more portable. They weigh only 11 pounds and come with a top handle that then easy to carry. The Philips Air Fryer weighs 15.4 pounds and has no handle. Eve though Avalon Bay air fryers are more compact than Philips', they have a greater cooking capacity. The Avalon Bay food basket can hold 3.2 pounds of food, while the Philips food baskets can hold only 1.8 pounds of food. The timer and controls on the Philips and Avalon Bay air fryers differ significantly. You adjust the time and temperature setting on the Avalon Bay air fryer using an integrated, dual dial system.

The top dial controls the temperature and the bottom dial controls the time. You turn the top dial to the appropriate heat setting and then turn the bottom dial to set the time, which also automatically activates the air fryer and starts the cooking process. The timer on the Avalon Bay air fryer has a maximum setting of 30 minutes. The timer on the Philips Air Fryer has a maximum setting of 60 minutes. Philips also let you use a digital interface to program the time and temperature settings, which are more precise than Avalon's dial system. You adjust the time and temperature by pressing the side of the control panel. The time/temperature button on the bottom left of the control panel lets you toggle between them. You activate the unit by pressing the power button on the bottom right of the control panel and start the cooking process by pressing the start button in the middle of the panel. The same button also pauses the cooking process so you can check on your food. The Avalon Bay Air Fryer stops cooking automatically when the food basket is removed, though the timer will continue counting down regardless.

Both Philips and Avalon Bay sell several accessories that let you expand the types of food you can grill, bake, roast, and fry in your air fryer. Some of these are included with your air fryer when you buy it, while others are sold separately.AccessoryDescriptionAvalon BayPhilipsDual RackAn elevated grill that increases cooking space within an air fryer. the fryer while the Philips grill pan does not. The lip feature makes it easy for you to cook runny dishes like eggs and omelets, though if you're making fattier foods like burger patties or bacon, you might have to drain the pan periodically while you're cooking. There are a few other items that should be taken into account when weighing Philips and Avalon Bay Air Fryers. The most important is price. The Avalon Bay Deluxe Air Fryer 100B only costs $99, over two hundred dollars less than the Philips HD9230/26 Air Fryer, which sells for $349. Avalon Bay Air Fryers are also available in a wider range of colors. You can buy them in black, white, and red. Both come with free shipping and free warranties, though Philips' warranty lasts longer than Avalon Bay's: 2 years vs. 1 year. Both come with recipe books.
