The Hepa filter advertises an ability to capture 99.9% of airborne pollutants, such as pollen, dust and pet dander. I purchased one of these units two years ago, and it was the first air purifier I have ever owned. Our household includes several pets, and both my husband and I suffer from occasional sinus irritation. I was curious to see if the addition of a purifier to our house would result in any reduction of sinus-related issues. I placed the unit in our bedroom and we did notice a marked improvement in air quality. The purifier isn't very big, and fit nicely on top of a dresser. The only issue with this unit is the noise- while it is advertised as being quiet, within a week of purchase we began to notice a periodic rattling sound emanating from the purifier. It sounds as if a bearing or fan has come loose and is vibrating during operation, resulting in a buzzing noise.

It was not terribly loud, but loud enough that I was driven to remove it from the bedroom and place it downstairs. We then purchased a different, quieter purifier for our room. The unit continues to function well, despite the loose bearing and I still consider it a good buy. The instruction booklet gives NO INFORMATION about he kind of filter required to replace the one fitted in the unit. There is a picture of the replacement filter on the box but it is not possible to read the part number. There are replacement filters shown on the product page which look like the right one. The Crucial Air ones do appear to be the right size and as they are a twin pack for the same price as a single Honeywell one I thought I would order them and see if they are the right ones. Lets see what the seller has to say about that.As other reviewers have commented this unit is quite big, 13 inches wide, 9 inches deep and 6 inches high. That is big for and air filter but this is a hospital grade one with an HEPA rated filter fitted to it.Not only that the instructions say the you need to have 3 feet clear around the unit. Looking at the way it works I would say you need clear space above and in front as the unit sucks air in at the front and blows it our straight upwards. It is also quite noisy the ambient in our living room with various things on is 17 dB, when I turn this unit on at the lowest speed the dB level goes up to 34 dB at the second speed this increases to 37 dB then on to 40 dB at the highest speed.

Not deafening and probably would not keep most people awake it it were in a bedroom.I bought this because we are doing some building work which is creating quite a bit of fine dust and two members of my family have gone down with chest infections, the dust is not helping their recovery. The unit seems to capture dust quite well and has already needed a filter clean after only 2 days.We have had air filters in the past which were much smaller and quieter than this one but they did not tend to have cleanable pre-filters, built in ionisers etc or an indicator to say when the filter needs cleaning. I think if we had been able to quickly find one like those we had years ago it would probably have been quite good enough, there is no doubt though that this one is a more capable unit.
