We have had the air filter for about two weeks now and have already experienced some great results! First, the air in our home smells fresh, just as if it has just rained outside, all day every day. Secondly, we have two pure white cats and have had a problem with shedding for years. It seemed no matter how much I vacuumed, there was always more hair. We had a very large amount of rain and my eve spout broke on the outside of the house. When this happened a lot of water came into my basement and flooded all of my carpet. Well, I was sure that my carpet was done for, so after cleaning up the mess with fans and dehumidifiers, I checked out the prices for new carpet. During the clean-up I ran my air purifier at full speed to clean the terrible odors that come along with water damage. After one week the carpet was completely dry and NO SMELL! Now it is fall and I did not have to change the carpet. Thank you for helping to kill the mold that would have been there. You saved me a lot of money.

The previous year had been a huge success here in the States for the big automakers, with sales booming for anything that took to the asphalt on four wheels.
However, with the country now officially at war, both the rationing of vital war necessities and the production of goods for battle stymied Detroit auto production for civilians and put the Motor City into a wartime manufacturing mode.Like all the big names in the auto industry, for Ford it was a tough pill to swallow. Redesigns were put on hold, and factories were converted for the building of armament to fight a war now raging on several fronts. Wiping out Detroit’s chief industry almost overnight was not unexpected, and was generally accepted, though at times it was met with some resignation. However, the conversion of usable factories to wartime producers without a doubt was a necessity for allied victory. The U.S. auto industry would just have to wait it out.Ford had a big hit in 1940-’41 with its ½-ton pickup. With its neat lines and car-derived styling, the truck sold well, and looked sweet to boot. However, for 1942, the ½-ton was redesigned into a more rugged, workaday type truck.
Though less stylish than its predecessor, they did offer some excellent performance, the trucks were powered by usable V-8s and stiffened underneath with a ladder chassis using four crossmembers. This setup gave the Ford more rigidity and strength, along with more body mounts. On the exterior, the front clip was redesigned with the most notable feature being a large, waterfall-style grille.You could choose from a lineup of two V-8s, a six, and a four banger. Semi-elliptic leaf springs at each corner replaced Ford’s ancient transverse leaf spring suspension. Options included rear shocks, an oil bath air cleaner, and a heater. A Hotchkiss Drive was also a new addition for the model year.With the war shutting down civilian production, the pickup was on hold until postwar production was restarted in July of 1945 for the 1946 model year. These “new” trucks were very similar to the ’42 models where it counts, as changes were few, but Ford did do some nice modernizing touches on the exterior.
For ’47, the macho, workman’s truck styling continued with little change. This design would be short lived because for 1948 Ford ramped up its design team and started production on the F-series pickups; the truck that would one day become one of the best-selling American-made automobiles in U.S. history.Arthur Poltorak operates Premier Restorations in Sloatsburg, New York, a full-service auto restoration facility just outside New York City. Being an avid car collector and automotive enthusiast himself, Art is a major player within the Northeast car hobby and has quite a few choice rides that he prides as his own.This 1947 Ford F-1 was brought into Premier because the owner, who, though he loved the exterior of the pickup, hated the way the Blue Oval ran, handled, and stopped…well how it barely stopped. Art looked over the truck and soon realized that in the recent past the solid Ford was treated to a quicky restoration with little done structurally or mechanically to improve its overall “road-ability.”
Knowing he had a solid piece of steel to start with, Art decided then and there that he could turn the truck into something much more. The customer wanted a truck that would handle more like a modern ride, but still keep its vintage look, and Art promised he could deliver the goods. A few modern touches would now highlight the build, along with a redesign of the front grille, which the owner was not fond of.With that, the truck was taken into Premier, and swiftly torn down. A brand-new chassis was built from scratch for the pickup, complete with tubular crossmembers, and set up for a Chevy crate motor. Up front, the truck received a Mustang II front suspension, including tubular control arms and a power rack-and-pinion steering system. Four-wheel power disc brakes were supplied to help this beast come to a halt.Power was supplied by a Chevrolet Performance Ramjet 350 fuel-injected engine, mated to a Tremec five-speed manual transmission with a hydraulic clutch shifting through the gears.
A Lokar shifter and boot handle the five speeds and looks great doing it. A big-bearing Ford 9-inch posi-traction rear stuffed with 3.55 gears gets all that power out to the rear skins. To help this rad ride stay cool, the original radiator was recored with a more modern core and altered to make room for an electric fan setup.The body was taken down to bare metal for some modifications. First off, the multi-section hood was welded together to form a single piece. Next off, the grille that was unappealing to the current owner was modified to make the lines of the truck to flow attractively throughout the front clip. To finish the clean look, the upper hood molding was trimmed down. A later Ford emblem was used and incorporated into the final grille design. For the bumpers, a set of ’48 pieces were used and fit. Last but not least, since the bed was badly rotted, a new reproduction piece was sourced and added to the mix.Next off, a ’66 Mustang fuel tank replaced the old unit, was fitted with a pop-up-style fuel cap, and neatly integrated under the new wood bedding.
The wood was stained with a light hue, and then satin cleared to protect it from the elements. Polished stainless steel bed filler strips were added to give the wood bed some pop!Underneath, Edelbrock ceramic-coated headers were installed to remove spent gasses with some style. A custom dual exhaust system was fabricated from scratch and routed out to a pair of chrome tips, exiting just below the bumper out back. The system gives the truck a rowdy punch with a tone that shows that this Blue Oval means business!The interior was redesigned using Ferrari tan leather throughout, with an accent of blue piping to play off the exterior hue. Blue cut pile carpeting adds a punch of color to an already interesting interior. 2006 Tahoe power seat bases were fitted with Pro Car seats and give the cab a modern feel. Creature comforts include power cowl vent, power windows and antenna, an Alpine CD, and Bluetooth stereo with four speakers.Dolphin white face gauges were retrofitted into the stock ’47 dash.
A GM tilt polished steering column fit with a billet Flaming River Waterfall steering wheel keep the Ford pointed in the right direction. Tinted glass was installed completely throughout the cab.On the exterior, the truck received a fresh skin of Ferrari “Tour de France” blue, playing off BMW Delphin gray. The two-tone paint scheme gives the truck a modern look, while harkening back to its vintage roots. To add some flair, 20-inch SMS chrome wheels sit at all four corners, shod with Yokohama Z rated tires. To smooth out the ride, Bilstein shocks do their duty.The result from Premier is a truck that has kept much of its vintage look, but built on a modern platform that gives it today’s performance, handling, and stopping power. If creature comforts are something you like, this beautiful ’47 is probably your cup of tea. And Arthur loved the way the truck came out so much that he grabbed this stunner for his own collection. So for now, Art enjoys putting the feisty Ford through the ringer out on the twisty roads in Southern New York, and is always looking forward, contemplating his next big build.
