iqair whole house air purifierCan’t get enough home automation? Or maybe just irk by the fact that some of your home appliances are still not smart enough?

Well, then there is more good news for you from Belkin. It has just announced three more WeMo-enabled products, this time collaborating with Jarden Consumer Solutions’ Holmes brand. The products include Holmes Smart Air Purifier with WeMo and a couple of Holmes Smart Heaters with WeMo. Purifier and heater by themselves are of course a commonplace, but with the incorporation of WeMo, Belkin heralds them into the many connected things you may already own. As expected, WeMo allows you to do stuff like setting schedules or program while away and in the process prepares a warm welcome when you eventually reach home. In addition to that, it also lets you monitor the air quality, adjust the fan speed, switch it on or off remotely, manage the ionizer, and receive notifications such as filter change alert (with direct link for reordering the filter) pushed out by the appliance to the WeMo app. Holmes Smart Air Purifier also boasts True HEPA filtering capabilities, which include an optional ionizer to remove up to 99.97 percent of airborne allergies.

The Holmes Smart Heaters with WeMo has pretty much the same WeMo functionality as the Air Purifier, but it is of course tailored for heater with feature like remote temperature adjustment. Additionally, the heaters also touts four temperature settings: High, Low, EcoSmart and Frost Protect to suit the changing environment. The Holmes Smart Air Purifier with WeMo carries with it a MSRP of $199.99. The Holmes Smart Heaters with WeMo on the other hand, retails for $149.99 and $199.99 for the large and extra-larger model, respectively.Available on all machines ordered before 5.30pm Monday to Friday.Ionmax ION401 Ionic Air Purifier Traps airborne allergens like pollen, dust, and pet hair Gets rid of smoke smells and other household odours Suitable for medium to large rooms Safer & Quieter Than Traditional Bladed Fans Cools Using Only 40 Watts Dual Angled Offset (Up 90Degrees/Down 6 Degrees) JET Rings Provide Wider Air Flow Pattern than Traditional FansDyson revolutionised how we clean our homes – now it aims to clear the pollutants and allergens from the air we breathe.

The company is launching an air purifier amid mounting concerns about the toxins inside our homes, caused by everything from trendy wood burners to scented candles. The Dyson Pure Cool Link looks very much like the firm’s bladeless fans, but has a filter system that claims to remove 99.95 per cent of indoor allergens and pollutants. It removes items as small as 0.1 microns – one 750th the width of a human hair – from the air. Dyson is tapping into increasing anxiety about the toxic air inside today’s super-insulated buildingsCompany founder Sir James Dyson said: ‘We think it is polluted outside our homes, but the air inside can be far worse.’Dyson is tapping into increasing anxiety about the toxic air inside today’s super-insulated buildings.

However, peace of mind does not come cheaply. The starting price of the desktop version is £350, rising to £450 for a larger tower option.A study last month claimed lives are being put at risk from air pollution caused by cleaning products, wood burners, faulty boilers, open fires, fly sprays, air fresheners, deodorants and even scented candles. The warning came in a joint study by the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. A study by the US Environmental Protection Agency came to similar conclusions.Household sprays often use chemicals known as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), which start off as solids or liquids but readily evaporate into the air.Research in York found raised levels of a VOC called limonene, which is used heavily in air fresheners and scented candles to given a lemon citrus smell. The Dyson Pure Cool Link air purifier £350 desktop model is displayed in conjunction with an iOS remote app for the deviceIt is dangerous to inhale on its own and can become formaldehyde – a carcinogen that burns the eyes, irritates the skin, and incites coughing fits, nausea, nose and throat cancers – when it mixes with other airborne elements. At the same time, certain furniture, fabric, furnishings, glue and insulation can emit formaldehyde vapour, causing irritation to the lungs.Biological materials found in the home, such as house-dust mites, mould and animal dander – flecks of skin and fur – can also harm human health.Dyson claims that existing purifiers can use inefficient filters allowing potentially harmful, ultrafine particles to escape back into the room. Its device sucks in the air through a grille on the base and passes it through a filter of millions of tiny microfibres to trap particles such as pollen and bacteria. There is also a layer of activated carbon granules which traps odours and harmful toxins such as paint fumes.
