But there comes a point in time where you’re going to want your ride performing as good as it looks.

So when that time comes there’s no better brand to run with than Edelbrock.A trusted name since 1938, there’s plenty of loyalty and longevity when it comes to this brand. Its products have been proven time and time again as a formidable brand we’ve come to trust and in this installment we’ll be going over the basics of adding a few performance parts including a new air cleaner, intake manifold, water pump, and fuel pump.Of course this general overview shows you just how easy it is to replace the parts mentioned so long as you’ve got the proper tools and an entry-level amount of mechanical skill and knowhow.

We used painting prep to remove any silicone, grease, or dirt that may have been left behind on the cylinder head intake flanges. This is a very important step because you want both sides of the block and the intake to be clear of any residue to help ensure a solid seal.2. Permatec High Tack gasket sealant is then applied. This fast-drying all purpose sealant dries to a very tacky, not brittle film which helps adhesion while resisting gasoline, oil, antifreeze, axle lube, kerosene, propane and butane.3-4. The supplied gasket is then installed and the dry side facing you is then applied with a coating of Permatec High Tack.5. From there you want to use Permatec Black Silicone to run a 1/4-inch high bead across each block and seal surface. Be sure to overlap the intake gasket at the four corners to eliminate and seal slippage.6. Install the manifold with the bolts down. With heads that are pre-1995, apply small amount of silicone to the threads of the eight inner bolts to prevent oil seepage.7.

Once done, torque all bolts down to 25 lb-ft. Note: If you are installing a manifold on an application with Vortex or E-Tec cylinder heads torque all the manifold bolts down to 11 lb-ft.Edelbrock Classic Series Valve CoversEdelbrock first made these aluminum valve covers in the late ’50s and it comes as no surprise they’re still a top pick. Made of a heavy-gauge, sand-cast aluminum, the classic finned valve covers are available in a variety of colors. If by chance you need to accept a breather, these valve covers can be machined for one. As far as installation is concerned, it’s as simple as putting on the gasket, dropping on the valve cover, and installing the bolts. Note: These valve covers will not fit when used on Chevy motors that require “center bolt” valve covers.Edelbrock Victor Series Aluminum Water PumpWith 20 percent more output using 10 percent less parasitic loss. Edelbrock Victor Series pumps are machined from cast A356 aluminum and heat treated to T6 specs. While most of you may be lost in the jargon it simply means that these water pumps are built out of world-class materials.

Edelbrock Victor Series water pumps provide maximum cooling for the street and the race track. They’re ideal to prevent overheating in street rods and street machines, as well as in tow rigs and motorhomes. Using state-of-the-art racing technology, Edelbrock has designed these “super cooling” water pumps to provide maximum flow, maximum pressure, and equal distribution to both sides of the block within 1 percent.Installation: It’s as easy as reversing the removal process and can be done by anyone with access to the proper tools.Designed for use with all Edelbrock carburetors used on Performer or Performer RPM applications, these high-performance Street Fuel Pumps feature a high-quality three-stage polished finish. The unique valve design improves flow quantity and quality, and will support engines up to 600 hp. High-volume, 3?8-inch NPT inlet and outlet surpasses the capacity of conventional models. Produces 6 psi and does not require a regulator. Installation: Remove the screws from the pump pulsator cover and separate the lower fuel pump body from the upper fuel pump body.

Rotate lower pump body to new location and start the screws by hand tightening only. Please note that the inlet and outlet must be rotated together, or the pump will not operate properly. Before tightening the screws you must make sure that the rocker arm just be actuated to and held in the “full stroke” position. This is done to make sure that the diaphragm will be pulled to and held in its maximum working position. Once it’s in place torque a all bolts to the required 25-30 in-lbs. By doing these steps properly, you will ensure against premature diaphragm wear and subsequent failure due to over-stretching of the diaphragm’s material when in the full stroke position.Edelbrock Classic Series Air CleanerWant an air cleaner that’s got smooth lines and a vintage appeal? These air cleaners work with all popular 51?8-inch necks, for all carburetors or throttle bodies.Installation: If we need to explain how to install an air cleaner than you probably have no business working on cars. But in all seriousness, simply remove and replace the bolts that hold it down.Lucas Hi-Performance Oil Products Inc.
