edelbrock air cleaner stud size

OK, Still with me? Here’s where things get really interesting. I wanted to clean up the (really crowded) Eagle engine bay and improve performance and reliability, so I decided to scrap the entire stock ignition system and all of its related paraphenelia. I also went with the new HEI distributor from DUI in Memphis. It’s a little pricey ($350.) but it is hand-assembled for you, and custom-curved for your particular engine/car/gear combo. Easy one-wire hookup, and has the positive-lock male type distributor terminals. For this, I went with a set of Accel Spiral Core wires (for a 91+ 4.0) and Motorcraft plugs, opened up to .45” Looks great too! I wanted to get away from that cursed electronic Carter BBD, (though ours was actually running OK), and its dependence on all of those stock Eagle vacuum switches and now way-obsolete feedback computer. The choices were to either move forward to modern fuel injection or backward to a simpler carb design. Since I could not readily afford the former, I went with the latter.
I have adapted a Motorcraft 2100 2-bbl to the 258 six. I got this idea from Pierre Bochamp at AMRacing up in Quebec, in a NAMDRA article, and through all this, Pierre was a great help. He even opened up the ports on my intake and smoothed the adapter to manifold transition for a very reasonable sum. The Motorcraft 2100 is the carb that most AMC V8s came with. It is cheap, brain-dead simple to rebuild or tune, and very, very reliable. Also, I have about five of them in my basement! It’s also a good performance upgrade for the 258, as it flows about 300 cfm, versus the BBD’s 200-220 cfm. Using the stock ’82 aluminum intake and an Offenhausser carb adapter #5451 (about $40), the 2100 bolts right up! I needed a good 1/4” or so “insulator”-type base gasket, and the whole assembly is actually about 1/2” lower than the BBD asssembly. So no hood clearance problems! I had originally wanted to use the stock 2100 phenolic spacer, but that won’t work on the Offy adapter, and using it on the base gasket would have increased the height by about 3/4”, so I left it off for now.
The carb I am using is from my ’78 AMX 304, so should be jetted about right for a 265 with larger valves. Running great so far! No heat tubes, so I needed an electric choke, no problem, get one from any ’80s FSJ. The last hurdle was the linkage. I used two common 1 1/2” L brackets from a local hardware store, doubled up for strength, massaged the holes a little to line up with the 2100 throttle plate, and added a ball end.air purifier reviews ionic breeze I made the throttle rod out of two stock ones cut about 60/40, using the 60 part, threading both cut ends 5/16 x 18, and joining them with a 2” coupling and a couple of locknuts. air purifier argoSimple, elegant and looks factory!ionic air purifier asthma The stock BBD return spring bracket is easily modified to fit over the inside master cylinder mounting stud, and provides almost perfect distance and location for the stock 2100 return spring.
Ya gotta love it.! Right now I’m running an Edelbrock “Pro-Flow” air cleaner, looks cool, but is only temporary until I get a real stock-style air cleaner made at my local fabricators. My engine builder estimates (conservatively) that this motor is good for 160 to 175 hp. That’s almost 4.0 territory and can be increased easily, say if I want to drop a Holley 2-bbl 500-cfm on it or something. I will say this, the old “huff and puff up any little hill” old lead sled is gone, this Eagle wants to rock!Everything old is cool again, and what's cooler than putting modern touches on a truck that's been in the family since the beginning? My grandfather, Ernie Blumer, bought a '73 Ford F-100 4x4 brand new from Beley & Johnson Ford in Harlowton, Montana. At the time, Harlowton was a thriving small town along the tracks of the Milwaukee Road railroad. "Grandad" Blumer worked for the Milwaukee Road as an engineer and drove the F-100 on his days off. The truck led a rugged life, hauling everything from firewood and fishing poles to golf carts and hay bales to freshly-gutted deer after a successful day's hunt.
Grandad's been gone for 20 years, and the Milwaukee Road now exists in memories, monuments, and museums. After the railroad pulled out of Harlowton, the town became a shadow of its former self. The F-100 has languished a bit, too. Daylight shows through the rusty floorboards in a couple spots, and it's about impossible to find a body panel that's not faded, dented, or both. There are grand plans for Grandad's truck, but first things first: It's gotta run. The FE 360 Big-Block under the hood has never functioned well. It's a heavy engine, topped off by a bulky, cast-iron intake manifold. In 1973, emissions equipment was in its infancy, and cut out more power than it did emissions. Less horsepower meant it took more throttle (and thereby more gasoline) to do the same work. Far from an ideal scenario. So we've got a dented, rusty old truck that runs like it's got a banana in the tailpipe. Why is everything old cool again? Nostalgia, heritage, and freedom. We've discussed nostalgia and heritage, so what about freedom?
The '73 F-100 is old enough that it's no longer subject to emission controls and smog checks. This freedom means the poorly-working OEM parts can be ditched and replaced with performance parts that will wake up the anemic engine. It's time for a Big-Block revival. With its head-turning raised emblem, this patent-pending Slant-Edge Air Cleaner for Chevrolet from PROFORM is the final component you need to finish your dress-up look. Each PROFORM Class 12.9 (equiv. Grade 8) Header Bolt is permanently assembled with a pair of special wedge-locking washers. When the bolt is torqued to 28+ ft.-lb., the washers’ super-hardened external teeth bite into and grip the bottom of the bolt head and the top surface of the header. After being self-locked in this manner, any bolt-loosening rotation is blocked by a wedge-locking action created by the washers’ interfacing, matching cams. It’s an uphill climb: vibration that might ordinarily loosen the bolt actually increases the wedge-locking tension, securing the bolt even more. Because this design uses tension instead of friction, contact with oil actually facilitates the wedge-locking effect. When it comes time to change headers, PROFORM Header Bolts can be loosened with a normal wrench, lubricated, and reused. 0.984″ x 8 mm, 12 bolts (66754) 1.181″ x 8 mm, 12 bolts (66755) 1″ x 3/8″, 16 bolts (66756) 3/4″ x 3/8″, 16 bolts (66752) 3/4″ x 3/8″, 12 bolts (66751)
