The smell is very bad. I do not think this is applied for air filter.I will return it.The replacement filter was bigger than the original but was still able to use it.

I did not notice any odors from the filter that others noted. not quite as nice as oem but only choice because honeywell won't sell replacement filters despite continuing to sell the unit. It works, but it does not fit completely into the drum. It is still not a problem working.
