I cant describe it, but upon reading reviews on other sites, there have been several complaints about it as well. I called the 800 listed on the unit for help. The customer service rep was unable to help at all. Is there someone that can contact me about this awful smell? The instructions indicate to keep the doors closed in the room where the unit will be used, but we have to keep all the doors open or the room will be unbearable to stay in. Any ideas what is causing this smell? Hoe can the smell be eliminated? Or do I need to return the product? Ive been using it for over a month hoping the smell will eventually disappear. Ive only had this unit for just over a week and it has been great! Im in an apartment with two heavy smokers, and during the summer and winter when the windows are closed up it gets badly smoky. That is an incredible cost savings. I just went through a heat spell where the windows had to stay closed for seven days straight. I ran the unit on General 3 when one smoker was in here and Max 5 when there were two. The smoke reduction has been amazing for a washable filter! My only suggestion is to not use the oscillation feature - it will wear out - and theres no point in the accent lighting.
