While searching around for a place to rent, most people were saying their hydro bills were $30-50 per month. I got a 1 bedroom condo for myself and girlfriend. The building was recently constructed and never lived in before. All appliances were brand new and advertised as low-consumption appliances. I tried to set up Toronto Hydro asap, but I never actually got any bills until October (4 months after moving in). I called multiple times, and they said that my account was processing and that I just had to wait. So in October, I got a hefty bill that consisted of cumulative hydro bills during the processing period. These bills averaged around $60/month, which was a little on the high end of what I was expecting. Our bill ending November 15th came out to be $76. Our current bill from December 15th came out to be another leap higher at $91. This is more than double what people in the area were saying they were paying for hydro while claiming they were showering daily, weekly laundry, and regular dish washer usage.

378 kWH in total, tried to avoid on-peak and mid-peak usage as best as I could. 469 kWH in total. I used a lot more energy during peak hours, but still kept the majority of usage to off-peak hours. I don't think that I am using energy excessively. I don't leave lights on, the thermostat is set to 72 degrees (not too warm yet not too cold), I don't have drafty windows/doors, and I try to do laundry over weekends to avoid peak times. I'm working a pretty steady 9-5 so energy during the daytime is minimal. The only thing I can think of that is wasting energy is the TV/computer/videogame console, which are sitting in standby mode pretty much 24/7. I know there's not much I can do about the delivery charge, but that seems to also be what's killing me. People were saying that their bills were $30-50 while I was looking around the area, yet my delivery charges alone are in the high $30's by themselves. So I guess what I'm asking is if this usage and this bill is normal for people living in a 1 bedroom apartment in Toronto.
