HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air. HEPA filters are high density paper mats composed of randomly arranged fibers and pleated in a “V” pattern. The mat is bonded onto a sturdy base, forming the core of the filter. Particles are captured on one side of the filter which prohibits them from moving through to the other side. The Truman Cell® is Oreck's exclusive EP or electrostatic precipitator filter. It is composed of a series of metal plates and wires. Particles from the air are positively charged as they enter the cell wires and then are attracted to negatively charged plates where they stick until cleaned off. Captures at least 99% of dust, allergens, smoke, pet dander and pollen particles as small as 0.3 microns from the air that passes through the filter.

HEPA filters will need to be replaced over time, replacement time varies by model. Truman Cell filters need to be washed regularly but are permanent and never need replacing. Slightly higher noise levels compared to Truman Cell technology because more power is required to overcome the resistance that the airflow encounters as it travels through the solid HEPA filter.  But in general, sound is kept to a minimum with settings to reduce even further.
