I've had the first one for for 8 yrs or so and it's still doing its job beautifully. It does a pretty good job at making the air smell "fresh", but it doesn't seem to do a whole lot of anything when it comes to removing allergens. The remote is broken and the fan its so intense not silence recommend to everyone, great price as well! I waited for few months before writing this feedback. While it is supposed to purify the air, it leaves a bad smell (like an industrial one) there, defying the purpose of... Not sure how much it actually purifies the air. I little noisy, you can definitely hear it operating. I almost never hear the shock noise that other complain of.

The Secrets to Getting the Most from the ORECK XL I purchased this item specifically because I have two cats, and even with regular litter box maintenance, I'm pretty conscious of the smell. I hate being one of THOSE people, so something had to be done. After trying a couple other cheaper products, I came across this one, and all I can say is that it works perfectly.I use it in combination with one of those Glade plug-ins, and I swear it's like the cats were never here. Oh sure, I can't let the litter box go for forever either, but this product has by far taken care of the normal daily smell of the litter box.I highly recommend it to any fellow pet lovers, and while you're at it, I'd suggest getting one of these too Glade PlugIns Scented Oil Fan with 2 Extra Outlets, Clean Linen , 1 kitFinally, I will just add that this product is far from silent, but it's certainly no louder than you would expect out of a normal house fan.If you ask me, I give it two thumbs up!UPDATE:As others have commented, this product lasted about a year.
