Download the Carb Tuning Guide Watch the Super E & G Carb Basic Setup videoVerify carburetor is set to stock settings:Idle mixture screw, 11/4 turns from lightly seated.Idle speed screw, ½ turn clockwise from engagement point.Accelerator adjustment screw, two turns counter-clockwise from seated.Start bike, bring to operating temperature.Set idle speed adjusting screw, clockwise to increase rpm, counter-clockwise to decrease rpm. Idle rpm range should be 950 to 1050 rpms.Adjust idle mixture by turning idle mixture screw slowly clockwise until the engine runs poorly. Slowly turn the screw counter-clockwise until it starts to stumble. Set the idle mixture screw halfway between the positions, or at the strongest idle.Inconsistent idle may indicate a manifold leak.With engine idling, turn accelerator adjustment screw clockwise until it lightly seats. Snap throttle open—engine should stumble. Turn screw counter-clockwise ¼ or ½ of a turn at a time, until engine responds to throttle twist with smooth, quick response.
Ride motorcycle in various rpm ranges, and then try to maintain a consistent 40- to 50-mph. If the engine has a flat spot, or is popping/sneezing in the air cleaner, it can indicate a lean condition. If you notice stumbling or sputtering, it can indicate a rich condition.Low rpm operation is controlled by the intermediate jet (#11). If sneezing or popping is experienced below approximately 3000 rpm’s the intermediate jet must be replaced with a larger sized (richer) jet. If the engine does not run smoothly at low speeds, fouls plugs, blows black smoke or gets bad gas mileage a smaller (leaner) intermediate jet needs to be installed. Always readjust the idle mixture (#2) and idle speed (#1) screws after making a jet change.To test the main jet, do a roll-on from 50-mph to 70-mph in 3rd gear. If the engine backfires or breaks up in the carb, increase the main jet size .004". If the engine is flat or will not accelerate, decrease the main jet by .004".Since 2004 S&S shorty carbs have been fitted with an adjustable main jet air bleed (#13).
Changing this jet to a larger size will delay the signal to the main jet, therefore aiding with high speed tuning as described in step 8. This also aides with tuning an engine that is fitted with an exhaust system that is not intended for high performance. The air bleed uses main jets, the stock size is 40. Poor throttle response will be experienced.Always be sure to attach the hose to the overflow tube fitting (#6) and route it toward the back of the engine. Still waiting on the right hardware for installation. It's been three weeks. I got the part and it looks nice but the hardware kit in the package was wrong. This isn't J&P's fault more like S&S. My issue is that its been two weeks trying to get the right breather bolts for an EVO instead of the Twin Cam ones that were supplied. I never would have guessed two bolts were THAT special, or that an EVO was a rare breed. The stage one upgrade is a wonderful Christmas present for me. After reveiwing the Vance and Hines FuelPak here at J&P almost everyone had good things to say about it and the S&S super stealth air cleaner. Would most definately buy again! Can't believe Harley does'nt use this designe. Came highly recommended by the guy who runs my local bike shop for my 13 Fat Boy Lo. I had already installed V&H twin slash cut slip-ons, and I wanted to smooth everything out, and get max performance. I installed it with a fuelpak and it was a very noticeable difference. I still want more power, but this is definitely a great first step. I had a screaming eagle stage 1 before I bought this kit, and I am never going back to it! The noise and power gain where quite obvious. The bike breathes better, and the engine works "looser" at low rpm, with increased sensibility at the throttle. I loved it, my bike loves it. Definitely worth the price and more. Big bang for the bucks here! Awesome, great performance increase and simple installation! Love the sleeper look. Easy install made a night and day difference on power I forsure recommend This was a great addition to my 2013 Softail Blackline. Very high quality part and attaching hardware. Looks like it should cost more than it does. Instructions are very detailed and pictures help too. This air cleaner was very easy to install . Bike runs a little bit better and still looks like stock. Easy install and looks nice. I added it to my EGlide for a little EXTRA, and keep the bike's stock air cleaner cover. I can feel the difference, and didn't have to buy the whole Air Breather & Cover set. Good product as expected from S&S. As always JP Cycle had everything shipped quick and easy. Woke up the 103. Used with 4 inch rinehart slipons and vh fp3 tuner. No fault of JP but air cleaner cover won't work without a spacer on 2014 Streetglide. However I think JP should mention that on the site. Removing the stock throttle body support bracket was a surprise. The mounting bolts (2) are very difficult to access on a 2012 FLHTCU. I cut down a 3/16 allen wrench and it took a lot of patience. The factory used a lot of thread locker. Much more than expected. Easy instillation, Great quality. Just what "The Doctor" ordered for your ride! Easy installation and it really woke up the bike. I also purchased the VH FP3 and flashed the bike at the same time. Totally different bike now, no lean misfire and smooth powerband. Very pleased with all aspects of this product. I don't know how you all can keep them in stock. great item and quick shipping too! Good fit, increased performance. Great looking air cleaner easy install. This fits very well, gives my Sporty the lean/mean look and extra leg clearance. I have to wait for the snow to melt to test it out, but it is just what I was looking for. Fast shipping as always. Excellent quality as expected from S&S. Would be nice to have a size on the description but that's what the review is for. FIlter measures about 6" so I'll be ordering 7" round cover which will give 1/2" or so gap for the air to get in. 8" round should do fine on a blockhead but will be a bit to big for my taste on a Sporty. Cheers to J&P yet again. Still the dead of winter here and no garage, so not installed. Really prompt shipping to Canada and the best price anywhere Installed with minimal effort. Instructions were both complete and easily understood. While it is too cold at present for extended trips, I have no doubt that this investment was money well spent. Easy swap out with the stock breather. Gotta pay attention to need for extra washers (supplied in kit) so as not to torque the carb. Have not had time to evaluate performance yet. not happy with the cover for it , thought it was metal but its molded black plastic , cheap , i geuss i get what i pay for
