It seems strange to use the words Muscle Car and Museum together. After all when things you bought new qualify to be in a museum it mean you are getting old! After going through Floyd Garrett’s Muscle Car Museum in Sevierville, Tennessee it may be worth it. Most museums are devoted to a brand of car like a Packard Museum or very eclectic with all different ages and types of cars; some cater to the “cars of the stars” but few real museums focus on the Muscle Car. Floyd Garrett, well know muscle car expert with a fondness for the Bow Tie brand, has done just that. He, with the help of many muscle car collectors, has assembled a magnificent representation of the muscle car from virtually all manufactures. Certainly, not every muscle car is represented in this 90 car collection but keep in mind such museums are constantly changing inventory to keep the collection fresh. Just because one of your favorite cars isn’t there today doesn’t mean it won’t be the next time you visit.
While we were taking photos of our favorites we overhead some other guests talking about how certain cars were new from when they last visited but they enjoyed seeing all the cars regardless if they were there previously or not. In fact, Katrina and I visited the collection twice in one week and spent more time looking the cars over the second time than we did the first. As in so many cases, we were like kids in a candy store on  the first visit. The first time we almost ran from car to car to see what was in the collection. On our second visit we were more mature and spent time looking at each car more carefully and fully reading the display boards. Since our first visit to this museum we have returned again and this time it was to deliver one of our own cars to take up residence in the Museum for a year or so. If you visit the Floyd Garrett Muscle Car Museum and see a certain 1969 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II Dan Gurney Special say hi to it for us! The following are the cars that caught our attention on our first visit and thought you might enjoy.
Welcome to Muscle Car Heaven Floyd Garrett style. This video will give you a good overview of the Museum but check out the photos below for more detail. We walked in and fell in love with this beautiful 1967 Mustang 390 GT. We will be doing a feature on this in our Feature Car Page very soon. 1967 Shelby was sitting next to the 67 GT and provided a terrific comparison between what Ford built and what Shelby modified. Only 12,200 miles, most of it hauling moonshine! 1969 Big Bad Orange 390 Go Pack AMX Anytime you see the names Smokey Yunick and Fireball Roberts on the same car you are talking history. When was the last time you saw a 1962 413 Max Wedge Dodge Dart Convertible? This one is original and low low miles. I didn’t even know about this car until I read the sign. Big “E” took the final lap of the Century in 1999 after the last race of the year. It is in its as raced condition. If you can read the text on this Ford ad. Remember the movie Vanishing Point?
