After about a week of use my girlfriend is sleeping better and not waking up with sinus issues. We have a cat,dog and live in an area with lots of dust. The sound is like a standard box fan. It sucks in air from the back and blows it out the front. I'm thinking it would be great in the summer as it is blowing like a fan. Alittle cool in the winter but I have it blowing away from us so it not that bad. There is a uv light inside behind the filter. The on light works nice as a night light. It can be turn on or of with the push of a button. No problems for me. If you find one that doesn't work could just be the luck of the draw. I've never had an issue taking anything back to Walmart for an exchange or refund. Price is good and a permanent filter. If someone likes the idea of looking at a basic display that shows what number fan setting is on and soft push buttons over a rotary switch then spend the extra money. In the end they both do the same job and once your use to it, your not going to pay much attention anyway.

Simple instructions for maintenance, just vacuum the filter once per month. One star off review because high level setting is loud (medium is enough anyway) and UV light is bright, so don't use light at night where you sleep unless you like a bright nite lite. You really only need the UV on when someone in the house is sick with a cold, so it helps to eliminate airborne germs. I wouldn't count on the UV 100% however. We bought the $9 service plan which was a joke, because the manufacturer, Envion, just gave us the run-around, giving us a strange, complicated return process, and saying things like, 'We didn't get your Fax', 'Our Fax department hasn't updated their computer records', 'Call back tomorrow to check on the status of your return', 'We'll have a PR Rep get back to you in 48-72 hours'

We suggested it would be much easier to just return it to the store. The customer service rep, located in India, lied to us saying 'That's not how it's supposed to work', we had to abide by their return process, and that the store would not accept a return. ' The CS rep also asked for our credit card number on our last phone call, which they never did during ANY of our previous phone contacts - they were just supposed to send us a new unit, and give us a return label for the old one. We weren't about to give him our CC number, so, we got tired of getting the run-around every day and just ended up taking it back to Walmart, who gave us a full refund including the service plan. I have a cat and dog and there is a lot of dander and it cleaned it to where I could breathe without any trouble. On the low and medium settings it is very quiet, no problems watching TV in same room without turning up the TV. The high setting sounds like a quiet box fan would. I am very impressed with how much air it circulates even on the low setting. I have bad allergies and this purifier seems to helping. I hope the UV light helps during the cold and flu season. I would have given it 5 stars but I have not had it long enough to rate it's durability.
