Fuel, burners, fan and ducting are the main components of every furnace. There are four main components of a furnace. The fuel system, the burners, the fan and the ductwork. Each one of these must be in working order in order for the furnace to supply heat to a home. If any one of these are compromised, the furnace will not work properly, and depending upon your do-it-yourself skills, you may need to call in a technician to rectify the problem. The Fuel Source Fuel is the heat source for every furnace, and if there is no fuel being supplied, the furnace will only blow cool air. Oil tanks must have oil in them, gas supply valves must be open to allow the fuel to get to the burners and electric furnaces must be switched on at the breaker panel and the furnace on/off switch. Oil furnaces have filters that can become clogged after years of use, and these must be checked to ensure that an adequate fuel supply is making its way to the furnace. Electric breakers must be flipped to the "on" position at all times to provide heat, and if the breaker keeps breaking after a reset, an electrical technician must be called in to make repairs.

Manual Fuel Delivery Fuel delivery in a furnace begins at the tank or in the pipes, if it is a gas furnace. The burner itself, particularly on an oil furnace, can clog with dirt and debris. Although the burner doesn't have fuel enough to burn, it still triggers the fan to blow without any heat in the system. Although a clogged burner can be cleaned manually, in most cases it is best to call in a service technician for the task. Electronic Fuel Delivery A bad main gas valve, a faulty electronic ignition or a burned out thermocouple also impedes the fuel supply to the burners. Gas valves and ignition systems are professional-grade items and need to be replaced by a furnace technician. Thermocouples however are do-it-yourself items that are available at hardware stores and can be replaced with regular household tools. Reboot the System Modern furnaces are computer controlled, and just like your home computer, if there is a glitch in the system, a quick reset can solve the problem. Limiting switches and control boards can "hard lock" exactly as a regular computer will do.

The fuel delivery may be compromised even though the fan motor may still be blowing cool air. Turning the main furnace on-off switch to "off" and waiting 30 seconds before flipping it back on, reboots the system and allows fuel to flow back to the burners. Damaged Ductwork Holes, broken or unhooked ductwork causes cold air to bleed into the duct system. Although the furnace may be sending heated air into the ductwork, by the time it gets to the registers it may only be cool air blowing out. Broken or peeling duct tape, broken mastic or ductwork that is not screwed together may fracture at the seams, leak and become inefficient. Despite its name duct tape is not recommended for sealing ductwork because of its tendency to fail. Closed duct dampers inhibits airflow and allows only a trickle of cool air through the registers even though the fan is blowing. Mode 17: Adjusts AFR (Air Fuel Ratio) for warm idle – a positive number increases the amount of fuel and a negative number will decrease the amount of fuel. Changes are made in real-time, so you can adjust this number with the engine running and immediately see the results of your changes. Mode 19: Throttle Calibration Mode – when in mode 19, you will need to roll the throttle all the way open and all the way shut. This is NOT to be done with the engine running. This step is not required on the electronic throttle bikes (08-10 Touring). Mode 20: Fuelpak Software version level. Mode 21: Throttle Calibration Verification – the number here should show 0 with your hand off the throttle, increase as you twist the throttle and count all the way to 99 at full throttle. Mode 22: Displays RPM while the bike is running – an “11” would mean “1100 rpm”.

Throttle calibration is done during the installation process. With the fuelpak in mode 19, twist the throttle all the way open and then all the way shut. Do not perform this operation with the engine running. This process is not necessary on the 08-10 Touring or 2010 Sportster models. The Fuelpak and the Fuelpak maps will work with all makes and models of air intakes including but not limited to: Screamin Eagle, Arlen Ness, K&N, Kuryakyn etc. When looking up your map online or your paper packet, use the exhaust part number when possible, and if this is not found, use the name and/or title of the exhaust to find your map. When installing the Fuelpak from one bike to another (when applicable), the Fuelpak will not leave any trace behind nor is it married to the bike in any way. The Fuelpak is easily moved from one bike to another. Different Fuelpak models have different harness lengths and/or different connectors. If you want to move a Fuelpak to another bike, it is recommended you check the application page first to be sure it will fit on the new bike.
