This is way too noisy even on the low setting for us to keep in our living room. We basically stopped using it because of the annoying sound. Hope it is doing what is supposed to do. It's big and it's black, a nice change from all the white/beige purifiers I have used. It's also not too big to fit on furniture, which is something I have to do, due to a pet bunny who chews cords. I have two relatives using the Honeywell 50250-S 99.97% Pure HEPA Round Air Purifier, which is a wonderful purifier, yet it has to sit on the floor, since it is so big and round and heavy.This Honeywell has a nice control panel on the top, too, with a permanent pull-out plastic quick-start card. You have five setting choices, which are from the lowest to the highest: 1) Germ--"optimizes germ capturing performance", during cold and flu season. 2) General Clean--"general, everyday air cleaning". 3) Allergen--"optimizes allergen capturing performance", during allergy season. 4) Turbo--"for power cleaning or fast odor reduction". 5) VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds)--this is where the purifier automatically chooses the setting with its air sensor, so it can go from one setting to another, depending on room air quality.

White noise wise, the four non-sensor settings provide an excellent noise range for sleeping. Talking about sleeping, the LED lights can be dimmed or totally turned off, which is a feature so many other air purifiers lack for some odd reason.
