You will also notice both models are integrated with an air quality sensor -- this acts to 'find & detect' airborne particles & their type (e.g. bacteria, odor etc.) in the air and will find the most suitable 'set & forget' setting to deal with the impurity through varying the fan speed to remove them. To go into a little more depth with the Winix plasmawave technology -- it basically generates both positive & negative ions that con-join with H20 (water vapor), which in turn create 'hydroxls'.
It is these hydroxls which then neutralise harmful particles in the air such as viruses and chemical vapours via disrupting their molecular structure and basically creating even more water vapor. wac5500:  remote control | digital displaywac6300: remote control | digital displayEach unit comes with a remote for you to alter the settings of the air purifier, where you can even set it to sleep mode -- whereby it functions on its quietest speed setting and dims the lights on the digital display. Both air purifier models are backed by a one year warranty (which initiates from the date of purchase).Dimensions & Weight | Finishwac5500: 16.3 x 8.5 x 21.7 inches | cord length - 6.8 ft | color - white/silverwac6300: 16.3 x 8.5 x 21.7 inches | color - white/silverEnergyStar Qualified & CARB CompliantSo you know they are energy efficient & won't cause too much harm to your energy bill.wac5500: intake from the front and vented out the top.wac6300: intake from the front and vented out the top.

The only real notable difference is the 'added' sanitized aspect of the filter installed with the WAC6300, giving it the edge in the air cleaning performance (that provides "superior control of household odors, pollutants and allergens") -- this is what in turn makes it slighty more expensive. In truth, however I would just simply opt for the model that is cheapest out of the two -- but if they are roughly the same price, then obviously go for the WAC6300 (you can compare the prices of the WAC5500 and WAC6300 quickly, just above).
