The F100 Media Air Cleaner is up to 85% more efficient at removing airborne particles than a standard one-inch furnace filter, and maintains high airflow in your heating and cooling system so that it functions at fullWhole House Air Cleaners According to the Environmental Protection Agency, indoor air can be between two to five times more polluted than outdoor air. The average American breaths about 3,400 gallons of air each day, which is why clean air in your home is so important.

A typical one-inch filter traps larger particles to protect the heating and cooling system but doesn't trap many of the invisible particles. 99% of airborne particles are invisible to the naked eye. Each person breathes an average of two teaspoons of dust, pollen, bacteria, pet dander, dust mites, carpet fiber and second hand smoke into their lungs each day. High efficiency whole house air cleaners, which can greatly increase indoor air quality while reducing allergens and contaminants, fall into two categories, media filters and electronic filters. Media filters can be made with a wide range of materials and are rated by a MERV system. Air filter MERV or Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value is a measurement of the filtering efficiency of an air filter. The higher the number the more restrictive the filter, which in turn traps more particles. As an example, the Honeywell F100, which is a MERV 10, is 40 times more effective and up to 85% more efficient at capturing airborne particles compared to a standard one-inch filter.

Pleated, high efficiency media filters need to be replaced less often, usually every six to twelve months. They have a larger surface area to capture microscopic particles like dust and smoke in addition to larger contaminants like mold spores and pet dander. The most effective whole-house air cleaners are electronic style cleaners. They capture up to 99% of the contaminants that pass through them. Electronic air cleaners or EAC's as they are commonly called feature a renewable metal filter so they can be washed as needed and rarely need replaced. And because they are designed to maintain excellent airflow, even under heavy load, you can always count on clean air circulating throughout your home. An EAC is an excellent investment for anyone who has severe allergies, hay fever and/or asthma. Also children are more likely than adults to be affected by polluted indoor air. They breathe faster and inhale more air per unit of body weight and are closer to the ground where adverse conditions are greater.

Since most people spend 60 to 90% of their time indoors, indoor air quality is a major factor in your home comfort. EAC's are available in a standard configuration, like the Honeywell F300, or in a deluxe configuration which includes both media and electronic filters, such as the Honeywell TrueCLEAN™ model or the Trane CleanEffects™ model. When the home heating season arrives, it can be accompanied by a variety of indoor problems caused specifically by low relative humidity in your home. Dry air absorbs moisture from everything inside your home, including you. Dry noses, Scratchy throats. All familiar ailments caused by dry air. But this dry air causes more than discomfort. It can threaten your health and damage your home. It causes walls, ceilings and wood furniture to crack, wood floors and trim to separate, and shrinks the framing around doors resulting in gaps that let in cold air from the outside, making your home less energy efficient. Expensive electronic equipment can be exposed to static electric charges, requiring repair or replacement.

Properly humidified air can help prevent problems caused by dry air and provides a more comfortable living environment. Achieving proper humidity levels requires the assistance of a humidifier. Builder's Heating and Air Conditioning carries both major brands of humidifiers, Honeywell and Aprilaire. Each manufacturer offers a 5 year parts warranty and Builder's offers a one year labor warranty on our installation. There are three types of humidifiers usually used in residential homes, powered, by-pass and steam. The type of humidifier that we install is dependent on the application for your home. We will be happy to visit with you and discuss the best options to humidify your home. Ultraviolet Air Treatment Systems No matter how much you clean and disinfect, bacteria, mold and germs will blow through the air in your home every time your heating and cooling system turns on. Plus, your air conditioners cooling coil can serve as and ideal breeding ground for mold. Ultraviolet treatment systems act as an additional defense to help protect your family.
