Put it in the laundry room next to the cat box. I feel that it is quiet compared to some I have owned. As for the gassing smell that does dissipate after a week or so is similar to the new car smell. Love it and has helped freshen that end of the house. Doesn't bother the cat. I have ordered another for my bed room. I have bought many different air cleaners over the years and have 2 others now. I am buying my second Air Genius 4, because the first one has worked so well. I see results behind the air cleaner on the wall and filter that I have to clean because of all the dust. My other cleaners I don't see this. So I am replacing one of my old types.
