For example, a program or application may not appear in the Windows task bar but might be among some of your current, active processes.These programs may interfere with either Origin or your games and cause crashes and other difficulties.If a program seems to cause interference with either your games or with Origin, you can do the following:Close or disable the program(s)In the case of security applications, add Origin and your individual games as exceptionsExceptions are frequently referred to as "safe," or "allowed," so that their processes are overlooked by your program(s).To add Origin and your games as exceptions:Find Origin.exe at C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin, if Origin was installed in its default directory on your computer.You should add OriginClientService.exe, also found in this folder, to your exceptions as well.To add a specific game as an exception, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\"Game Name"Find the appropriate .exe, usually either the game's full title, or a truncated version.
If you've experienced issues before booting up your games or using the Origin client itself, make sure to fully close these or similar programs.After fully closing the programs and the problems persist, determine the most active or processing intensive programs, then try the following: Uninstall the program(s)Restart your computerObserve your gameplay or Origin performanceThe following applications and types of programs were reported to cause issues with Origin and playing certain games. What You Can Do Any Anti-Virus program could potentially block Origin and Origin game access, especially when not properly configured for use with Origin. McAfee Anti-virus, AVG Anti-virus, Norton Anti-virus, Microsoft Security Essentials, Kaspersky Anti-virus Add Origin and all Origin games as exceptions for these programs so that they may run freely. If issues persists, disable or temporarily uninstall the program to test the issue. Much like anti-virus programs, Anti-Spyware applications can end up blocking Origin or your games while trying to protect you.
Ad Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy, PC Tools Spyware Doctor Firewall and other Security Applications Like the above security-related applications, Firewalls and any other security measures running on your computer are trying their best to make sure only the right things are running at the right time, and this may cause friction or interference when running the Origin client or your games. Windows Defender, McAfee Personal Firewall, Peerblock, Peer Guardian Peer to Peer applications Peer to Peer programs do a good job of occupying both your net-bandwidth and, if you have many simultaneous downloads, your computer processing speed. uTorrent, BitTorrent, Kazaa, Limewire Close out any Peer to Peer applications, or try to limit the number of active downloads or uploads while playing your games or browsing Origin. FTP and other Web Server Programs Much like Peer to Peer software, FTP or other Web Server programs can eat up a lot of your Internet bandwidth, dramatically affecting your online play, or even take up a lot of your system's resources, resulting in slowed-down or laggy gameplay.
Exit any FTP or similar program completely before playing, or ensure that no downloads or uploads are active. Download Management programs, the most-common of which are "download accelerators," may affect your game downloads or updates. Internet Download Accelerator, Internet Download Manager, Download Accelerator Plus Before opening Origin, as it may require an update or automatically start downloading game updates, close out your Download Management software. VPN, or Virtual Private Network, Applications Virtual Private Networks allow users access to secure, private networks, such as a business intranet, across public networks, such as the Internet. VPNs take up some extra Internet connection bandwidth as well as computer processing power, both of which may affect the performance and responsiveness of your games, while some private networks may have additional security measures that will also limit game playability. Disconnect from any VPN you're connected to before starting up your game. Proxy, IP Filtering, and IP Masking Programs Using a proxy, or additionally using any sort of IP filtering or IP masking software, can affect how your computer and your games are connecting to Origin and EA's game servers. Tor, Freegate, Apache, BitGuard Disable any Proxies, IP filtering, or IP masking before jumping into the Origin client or your games. NOTE: The use of proxy server is not supported by the Origin client. Programs that have Visual Overlays Any program that tries to place a filter, picture, or Graphical User Interface on top of a running program can potentially cause issues for Origin and Origin games, which similarly uses an In-Game Overlay feature. X-Fire, Windows Blinds, Ventrilo Close all of these program types before running Origin or your games. The above list is not exhaustive. If you find a running program that you're unsure how to classify, disable, close, uninstall, or troubleshoot, try running a web search to learn all you can about what is active and running on your PC.
